  • St. Francis of Assisi
    St. Francis was born Giovanni Francesco di Bernardone in 1181 to a wealthy cloth merchant. He was headed to war when he received a vision from God, so he devoted his life to preaching about God while living in poverty.
    Appearance: In artwork, St. Francis is usually pictured wearing the brown robes, often with patches, symbolizing his life of poverty. Many times he is accompanied by animals, particularly birds and a wolf, recalling events in his life.
  • St. Regis
    St. John Francis Regis was born at Languedoc, France on Jan. 31, 1597. He joined the Society of Jesus at age 18 and was ordained at age 33. St. Regis traveled throughout France educating and converting the poor, hearing confessions, and collecting food and money for the unfortunate. He died of pneumonia in 1640.
