    St. Lawrence was a deacon who lived in the 3rd century, a time of great persecution of Christians in Rome. He was brought before a judge, who ordered a slow, painful death, that he be grilled over a small fire. As he was dying, St. Lawrence joke, "Turn me over, I'm done on this side."

    St. Martin of Tours was born a pagan in 316. During his time in the Roman army, he saw an old man shivering in the cold and gave the old man half his cloak. He converted to Christianity after seeing a vision of Christ that night, wearing the half of his cloak and telling his angels the story.
