    St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers, is one of the most popular saints. Besides the fact that he was a martyr of the early Church, little is known for sure of him. According to his legend, St. Christopher carried the Christ child on his shoulder across a river.

    St. Fiacre was raised in County Kilkenny at a Kilferagh monastery. He became known for healing, which caused him to seek out a hermitage in France. In Maux, he built a hospice for the poor and for travelers, and he also build an oratory to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.

    St. Rose of Lima was born on April 20, 1586. She took a vow of chastity and helped her parents and other poor by embroidering. She was a mystic and a visionary, and suffered many mental and physical afflictions. She died at Lima on Aug. 24, 1617.

    St. Sebastian was a captain of the Praetorian Guard during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. He secretly brought supplies to persecuted Christians. Emperor Diocletian had Sebastian tied to a tree and shot with arrows. The arrows failed to kill him. He later died as a result of blunt trauma.
