He wrote the "Rule of St. Benedict" which became the norm for monasticism and he founded a dozen monasteries himself, including the famous Monte Cassino, where he lived.

    St. Scholastica, twin sister of St. Benedict, was born in 480. She founded a religious haven for women about five miles from Benedict's monastery, at Plombariola in the foothills of Monte Cassino. in 543, three days after her annual meeting with Benedict, she died.
